Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the youngest of the children of the singer Dionne Warswick as well as gospel singer Cissy Houston. Whitney Elizabeth Houston grew as a child in a household of musicians. In her early years she performed in the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. By the time she reached the age of 15, Houston had sung professionally as a backing vocalist with her mother in Chaka Khan's song from 1978 Im Every Woman. Jermaine, her mother and Lou Rawls were a few of the artists she backed up. The singer was also a model for Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. The singer was first a featured vocalist for the The New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her vocal quality work attracted attention from major record label Arista which she joined in 1983. In 1985, Whitney Houston's debut album turned out to be the best-selling debut album ever. The album contained several hit songs including How Will I know You Give Good Love Saving All My Love For you and The Greatest Love of All. It allowed her to achieve seven US chart-topping songs in succession and beat the Beatles. The album came out in 1987, and it sold over 25 million copies around the world. The Whitney album of 1987, which featured the songs that I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to, continued her success. It is The Bodyguard of 1992 that made her one of the most successful artists in history. Though the movie was not well-received and neither did her performance, the soundtrack to her Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You hit the top spot on both singles and albums charts in America for a period of time. She sold 44,000,000 copies. Their daughter Bobbi was born in the month of March of 1993, a year after she wed Bobby Brown. At this point the drug use was documented, and she was able to use it regularly until 1996.
